SPEAKER_02Welcome back.
SPEAKER_03This is a continuation of last week's episode. Things are not working, but it's just something it keeps building up, and it's a bunch of things that makes you explode and it's like I'm done. So before you explode and be like, I'm done, already, already be looking to make a move. Um, yeah. So so my advice basically would be to put yourself first, put your mental health first, and um do what do what's best for you. Don't give yourself, don't give all of yourself to any body, any company, because at the end of the day, you are replaceable. And yeah, put yourself first. I'm always saying that. Put yourself first, but just make sure you have a big a backup plan. I what I don't want you to do is be quit quit and don't you can't pay your bills, you can't do any of this. No, you want to make sure you already have a job lined up. So once you get hired on that job, then you can quit the j the job you're currently working. Yeah. And speak up for yourself. Always speak up for yourself, even if you even if you you're doing it very emotionally, even if you're crying, speak up for yourself, send an email. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes, that was great, great advice. So now you told us about this. Now tell us about the good things. Tell us about what have you been doing now that you're unemployed, what have you been working on? What have you been troubling? Tell us all those things, Selinda.
SPEAKER_03Honestly, unemployment is the best thing ever. If I didn't have to work, I would not have to work. I would not go to work. I want to be one of those people that can choose when they go to work. Unemployment in life. And I've always been like this. It's like I love, though I love what I do, I also love to sleep. I also love to travel. Like, I don't understand having to work nine to five, five days a week. It's like that is not life for me. And because that's the type of person I am, I'm gonna make sure moving forward, I'm still able to like travel and everything. So basically, life since I've been unemployed again. I slept for like a month, not like, of course, like a month straight, but like I just been resting, watching, catching up on all the series on Netflix, all the little TV shows people were talking about. But during that time, I wasn't watching it because I was stressed out with working and school and everything. Now I had time to catch up on everything. Um also I've been decorating my apartment. Uh, I don't think I've mentioned, I don't know if I mentioned um with the podcast that I did move and I have an apartment that's perfect. It's everything that I wanted. It has a gym, it has a pool, it has a clubhouse. I'm on the top floor. It's like a perfect apartment. Uh, so I've I've been slowly putting in time to decorating my apartment, which is it was great. It's coming along. It's it's taken some time, but it's coming along. I have like the main areas done. It's still like a bunch of little things I still need to buy to make it more like home. Um, I've been hanging a lot out with like friends and you know, doing different activities like with friends. Um, this girl that I I used to actually go to, I went to elementary school with her, but we she ended up moving and it's I I found out she lived in the same apartment complex. So we like rekindled our friendship, so we work out together. We plan like little day trips together. I just went to a concert with her because her job gives her great free stuff. Her job gave her sweet tickets to this concert that we went to. So I've been outside. I've been outside living my best life. Um, I've been traveling and I'm trying to do a little bit more travel. I'm literally just trying to jam-pack everything until I have to start working again. So I've been traveling. I did, I went to LA. I did maybe like five days in LA, visit some friends in LA. Um, I went to Salt Lake City for about five days. Um this coming up week, I'm gonna go to Carmel for like a just like a night trip, do a one-day trip, do like a spa trip. Um, Carmel. And then two days later, I know I am look at your girl. Two days later.
SPEAKER_02Girl, you said spa, and I was like, oh, you know, I love me some spas.
SPEAKER_03Yes, I need to relax. Um, and then two days after that, on Thursday, I'm gonna fly to Miami, and then I'm going to do a carnival, not a carnival, not carnival. I'm gonna do a cruise, a Caribbean seven-day cruise. Um, I'm gonna go to uh Dominican Republic, Bar uh St. Thomas, Bahamas, and one other place. So I'm looking forward to that.
SPEAKER_02Take me with you, girl. How big is that suitcase? You think I fit?
SPEAKER_03I don't know. I don't know if I need multiple suitcases for all the clothes I'm gonna bring and all the swimsuits I'm gonna bring. So I'm looking forward to that because that's that'll be my most biggest trip that I'm gonna go on since being unemployed. I actually told myself not to say unemployed. I'm gonna I'm gonna do like the the the guys do pre-retired, pre-retired. And I'm gonna say I I'm in between jobs. I am in between jobs right now. Uh so I'm look really looking forward to that. And then uh let's see. So yeah, just relaxing, traveling.
SPEAKER_02I raised my hand prematurely because I didn't get a chance to formulate what I was gonna say. But if I if this comes out right, what I was gonna ask was, has there been any movement on kind of like the you mentioned you wanted to get into aesthetics or any of that? And then also, um, did you you mentioned you knew you were going to um you know take some time off? Did you give yourself a certain time frame or are you just going with the flow?
SPEAKER_03Um I originally gave myself two months off, but then I was like, yeah, why go back so soon if I don't if I had don't have to? Uh so originally gave myself two months, and then I'm like, it sounds like I need more about three months because one month again I was sleeping and not doing anything. The second month is like I want to actually be more like doing more things, like traveling. Oh, I also started golfing. I'm trash, but I started golfing and I'm trying to be like a little golf babe, and I have this cute golf bag set. I have a golf bag, it's pink and has some golf clubs, so I'm trying to become very good at golfing. So catch me at your nearest golf club and my cute little golf outfits, golfing outfits.
SPEAKER_02Um, oh yeah, your question was what made what made sorry, oh my gosh. Okay, real quick. Sorry, we are so off topic, but what made you get into golf? Just curious.
SPEAKER_03Um, I used to go to the driving range like years ago with my dad, and I'm naturally good at every sport that I try. So I'm like, let me do something that's different that I'm kind of good at. I'm not gonna lie, I'm not good. I can hit the ball, but I don't know anything about the fundamentals of golf. I can hit the ball. So I'm like, that's a good start. Um and then so there's this group on Instagram, free apps, free promo here. There's a group on Instagram called golf babes or Bay Area Golf Babes or something like that. And they hosted an event where um it's really cute aesthetically. It's all pink and they have like matcha, it's basically a bunch of a group of girls getting together and learning about golf and just like at their driving range, networking, and hitting some golf balls. And I took it upon myself because I wanted to start doing things by myself and not have to wait on like if a friend can do it with me. So I told myself, let me force myself to sign up for this event. And that's what I did. I signed up, went by myself. I ended up meeting this girl who was super cool. She ended up being a lawyer. I was like, okay, lawyer, and she's super young, and I thought that was cool that I was meeting other people that was like outside of like healthcare. Um, so kind of that's why I got engulfed. I always wanted to do it, and I've done it before in the past, but I let it go. So I'm trying to get back into it.
SPEAKER_02That's really cool. I do want to just um point out that when you step out of your circle, when you take that leap, you're able to create networks outside of your circle, which you know, who knows how that may come in handy.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, that's really cool. Who knows? Who knows? Who knows? Um, yeah, so but my goal is to start working in August. So I think I'm gonna use the month of July to start actually applying for jobs now. Like I had the two months off, and then I'm going to start applying for jobs in um July, and then hopefully get hired on in August. My goal is still to apply to like um like an a Mets ball or uh some type of aesthetic um like spall so I can learn like the fundamentals of aesthetics because my end goal would be to open my own practice, but I do want to do both, I want to do both because I really like primary care and I always go back and forth. It's like I don't want to lose my knowledge of being like a nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner working with patients. Um so I eventually in the future I do want to do like telemed for primary care um patient and then also the other days aesthetics. Um so right now, and again, August, I'm gonna my goal is to work four days a week as an aesthetic nurse and then like two days do like telemed as like a nurse practitioner. Reason why I want to do telemed is like I got my experience in clinic and I'm okay with seeing patients very chilly. And so that's what I want to do, something that's more flexible. So I'm not required to like, oh, you have to be here at this time, you have to see these amount of people. It's like, no, it'll be working on like my own time. Um, and then also again, so I won't lose my knowledge that I worked so hard for, that I've cried over, that I lost sleep over um trying to become a family nurse practitioner. I don't want to lose any of that. So that's again the reason why I want to make sure I'm still working as like a provider. Um yeah, so I'm excited for that. I'm I'm excited. I'm a little nervous because the whole aesthetic world is so unknown and like I don't have any experience in aesthetics. You know, when you're in school, they're talking they're teaching you everything that's not aesthetics. Like, and again, listeners, aesthetics is like Botox fillers. Um people can do like um like skincare, like anything like beauty, can be like um help things I help with, like weight loss. Like I want to do, I want to learn it all. Laser removal, I want to learn everything. Um so it's a little I'm excited and a little nervous because it's gonna be a complete learning curve, but again, I'm looking forward to it.
SPEAKER_01Do you think that ever since um like right now that you took like a like um like a time off, do you think it's gonna be hard to like start again, like you know, applying, getting into interviews, and then now uh like do you know like okay, do you know what I want to work from this time to this time? Like, do you now you have like more like clear what do you want from a job and what you don't want from a job? Or what what do you what do you think?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I do. Like I I definitely do, but one thing I said I would I did not want to do is work weekends, uh, but it looks like I would have to work weekends, which makes sense because when you're like a an aesthetic, when you work in an aesthetics world, weekends like people work Monday through Friday. So weekends is like the only time where they're able to go in to be seen for like filler or anything. So it looks like I may be working weekends. Um, but I'm looking at it as a I'm sacrificing because for me this is a learning experience and a growing. So I'm able to then take everything I need to learn so then I can apply it to my own business. Um, so I'm not looking forward to having to work weekends, but I I'm making a little sacrifice. Um an investment, yeah. An investment, yeah, exactly. It's an investment. Good word. Um, putting an investment into myself. And then so, and then for the primary care NP side of working, like I know I want to be more flexible. So when I apply to jobs, like I know I'm gonna do like per diem or like telemed where like I'm able to choose my own schedule and like pull as many patients I want to see for like the day. And then I wouldn't mind going in person to a clinic where but they have to be flexible. Like if they allow me to go in like once or twice a week, I would love to do that. But if not, I don't mind doing telemed. Because I actually love seeing pay like being like in the same room with a patient and talking to them and actually actually physically doing like a physical. I am gonna miss that. But if it's difficult to find a place that that's that's flexible that way, I don't mind telemed. I don't mind it at all.
SPEAKER_02I like that. I like that you're being flexible with your expectations. Um, it'll make it easier when you know trying to figure out or just like trying to find um your new job because it it's hard, like it's really hard, but um everyone like everyone's so different, right? Every place is so different, and so giving yourself flexibility I think will give you more options, and I think it'll make actually choosing your job not as difficult because I feel like when you're so rigid in your in your expectations, then you like start you start to create your kind of like problems. You're like, oh, but I need this, I need that, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03Yes, I agree, I definitely agree. Um and then yeah, I'm also excited to start learning. I ordered a bunch of stuff on Etsy. Of there's like little training manuals of how to do like facial anatomy and how to do certain things. I I want to, you know, just learn the basics before like I jump on in. So I'm excited for that.
SPEAKER_02I'm excited to just I'm out, I'm really excited to kind of like just I we're we're all really busy, right? So we don't get to see each other um for uh for listeners. We Linda, Kathy, and I have not seen each other in a really long time. Since December. Yeah. Kathy remembers.
SPEAKER_03But I'm excited we have the Christmas party.
SPEAKER_02But I'm really excited to to have that time where we meet up and you kind of tell us everything that you've been learning. Like it's exciting to hear your friend talk about, like, you know, the their their hopes, and not only that, but like, you know, what they're doing um and what you're learning. I'm excited. I'm excited too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I feel like excited to see like the difference between the two worlds, right? Between the FMP world, which is different than the aesthetic world. And then like I feel like FMP um is like you are have already like been introduced, you already seen patients, you already know how like the flow works and or like what to order and all of that. And then now you're seeing a different type of world that is like with different type of like even population. And like, how is that gonna work? Or like, you know, I feel like for me, it's kind of when I hear aesthetics, for me, it's intimidating because the face has a lot. Like it has a lot of things, it has a lot of nerves, it has a lot of muscles. Like for me, it's not, it's not for me. But I could be your I could be your patient, I could be your client, but um, I'd rather pay for it than doing it myself. Uh but yeah, like I'm excited to see like the difference between the two worlds, the difference between the population of FMP, the population of aesthetics, what have you learned? And yeah, like like it's like a whole new chapter that we are looking forward to seeing you go through. Hopefully, life don't be life life, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm excited for you to uh to make us we're already beautiful, but you know, enhance your beauty.
SPEAKER_03It's enhance that you already your features that you already have. I'm excited to facial facial balancing. I'm I'm so excited to step into this world. And I'm also like Kathy said, I'm also nervous because like for me, I like to be good as be good in what I do. Like, I don't want to mess with anyone's face, just like I don't want to mess with anyone's like like health. I want to be very knowledgeable because I even had some people like, you're good, you can go order the stuff yourself and start doing it now. And it's easy to do Botox, you just gotta poke here and poke. I was like, no, girl, you are risky. Like, let me learn, let me take the steps to learn. It sounds easy, but I've also seen horror stories with things going wrong, and I don't want that to be me. Like I want to, I just want to learn, I want to have fun during this process, I don't want to be overwhelmed. So I'm hoping like Kathy said, I hope it don't be life in life in on the other side. Like I pray that it's not. But again, I uh sorry what are you gonna say?
SPEAKER_02I will say, listeners. I now that I'm starting to think about it, I'm like, I would love to have Linda as my aesthetics nurse. And the reason why I say this is because this girl is a perfectionist, okay? She's a perfectionist, so she will be, yeah. Actually, I think this is a really good field for you to go into because like Kathy said, it's our it's your face. That's the first thing someone sees, you know. Of course, like it's important, and you know, it it's what makes it impressions and everything. So it's really important that you're thorough and you're you know, you have valleys like Linda where you're kind of a perfectionist and you want to make sure that you do everything that to to make sure that everything comes out the proper way. I do have a question, I'm just totally not trying to be a negative Nancy here, but it's just like I thought about it. Um, I know you're pretty selective about like some of the things you say or who you um say um things to.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um when you know, uh thinking about the switch from being in what primary care and going into aesthetics, did you ever receive like any like negativity or did you ever feel like people judged you for making that wanting to make that switch? Because those are two different fields, and I don't know, I can totally see people, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_03It's a huge thing. It's a huge thing. I I'm very selective of who I tell that I want to be aesthetic nurse to because honestly, I want to do both. I want to do primary care and I want to do aesthetic nursing. I don't want to leave primary primary care like completely. Like I do love both worlds, but I've heard the negative side of people um becoming an aesthetic nurse. It was like always negativity, and I don't understand it, but it was always the older folks, the old heads that would always have something negative to say about those who choose to become an aesthetic nurse. Um, there were certain um, I had like classmates that did the nurse practitioner program because they knew that their end goal was to become an an aesthetic, an aesthetic nurse. They never wanted to work in primary care. So then I would hear like professors and clinical instructors like, I don't even know why the school accepted them into the program. They just want to be an aesthetic nurse. That position should have been given to someone else. Like they shouldn't have even been in the program. And then aside from that, too, it's like, oh, I don't know why they um aesthetic nurse is not real nursing, it's not real like medical stuff, it's just like beauty. I I don't I feel like it's a competition for where it doesn't matter what field you're in, there's always someone has to say negative, something negative about something. Um, so I just learned to do it best for me and just like keep certain things to myself, especially if I've heard that person say something negative about becoming an aesthetic nurse. Um, because I have been reserved about telling or speaking on it because I know it gets like a backlash. It gets it has like a negative connotation in people's. To say they want to be an aesthetic nurse. I'm like, do what do I'm doing what makes me happy. I already been in the world of primary care and felt like how they treated me and I'm doing what I love. So it's like, why care what the next person has to say about me when I was giving my all into something and it still was not enough? Um so it is what it is. But I do feel, I do feel because there's a lot of people who want to just do the aesthetics world, I feel like there should be a route or like a rotation or like a program where it's just focused on aesthetics. Like they shouldn't have to just work in like the primary care aspect. Like if you know your end goal is to be aesthetic nurse, just have a whole curriculum of how to become an aesthetic uh nurse or nurse practitioner or an aesthetic doctor, like just that field.
SPEAKER_02And you know, that might be something to look into making a program, Linda. That is true. Listeners, then we take them all stuff. Yeah, what do you think, Linda? We can we can throw something over here now.
SPEAKER_03I know. Should we should we cut that out then?
SPEAKER_02Doctor and Dr.
SPEAKER_03MP, yeah, maybe should we cut that out? Because if it makes sense, it's like why not just have a route just for aesthetics? Yeah, I know you go to schooling, but just make it focused on what that that field is. What are you gonna say, Kathy?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I feel like I don't know if it's because where we're at that is like San Francisco and not LA. There is not a lot a lot of like like it's really hard for people to find these classes or like to find like what to take. That's what I've I've heard. And it I haven't like really looked into it because I have not going through that route, but it's because I I've been looking for Linda. Like sometimes when I get like emails like, oh injection, blah blah blah, like I'll send it her way. Like, oh look, they're gonna do like this chart, like um, like this um what is it? This clinic or like they're gonna do this uh workshop. Uh-huh. Yeah. But I don't know if it's because we're in the Bay Area because I don't I feel like LA is more aesthetic y because of like, you know, models and like actors and actresses. Uh but I would, yeah. Yeah, but I do feel like here is like kind of you have to really look into it, or again, it's who you know and what you know, and any gets even more, it's like it's harder.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's a lot of aesthetic clinics and like med spaws, but like training-wise, there's there's a few, and I feel like all the good ones is either in Southern California. I notice like the UK has an amazing um aesthetics uh course in like training, hands-on in like other places, but yeah, I feel like there needs to be more, and maybe that'll be something that I can put together later on down the line. Um, that's actually very thorough. Uh, and these courses they they cost a lot, they they're very expensive, very expensive. Um, yeah. And then if I don't like the whole work environment where I'm at, come to the aesthetic world. It's okay because again, like I said, my end goal is to is putting an investment, invest in myself, invest in my knowledge because I want to open up my own practice. I don't want to be in a crazy toxic nothing anymore. Like, after I get all the knowledge I won't, I'm just gonna build my own business. Like, I you know what it is, you know what it is, Linda?
SPEAKER_02What you skip the whole toxic relationship, and so you had to experience it in these other areas, so you build these qualities.
SPEAKER_03No, that is you gotta build it somewhere, girl. Oh, it is so true because I was joking with my coworker because I was like, I don't know. I feel like I was in a tocker toxic relationship, and I know that's crazy to say, and I tell my co-workers, like, I don't know how how it is to be in a toxic relationship. Is this a talk? Is it is this a toxic relationship? She's like, girl, yeah, you're crazy. No, no, because then I start like blaming myself. I was like, maybe that person that actually doesn't mean this. Like, maybe she's like, no, girl. Like gaslighting, yep, yep, yep. Yep. So I I've learned a lot. I've learned, I take everything. I can laugh about it kind of now, but yeah, I'm looking forward to the future. So, listeners, thank you so much for listening. Uh, down the line in a few months, I will hopefully have some more updates for you. Uh, on a lighter note, more updates, be able to talk more clearly about how life has been lifened, but that's gonna be a while from now.
